Always Be Thankful — Great turnout for the Community Thanksgiving Service last Sunday evening at the First Baptist Church. A special offering was taken to help fund the Friona Ministerial Alliance for the next year. Last year, around 29 families benefited from the program.

The Carthel Cookers — A big thank you to Tracy & Wendy Carthel for cooking the pork tenderloins at the Senior Meal last Thursday. It was a job well done and tasty!

I’ll Swear — Holly Campbell and Andy Alexander were sworn in by City Manager Lee Davila for 2-years terms as board members for the Friona Economic Development Corporation. Holly is currently the Secretary and Andy is the Vice Chairman of the Board. Other members of the Board include Chairman Justin Jeter, Clint Mears, Mayor Greg Lewellen, and Olga Legarreta.

Coming Soon — The Friona Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture will host their annual Christmas In The Park & Light Parade on Monday December 9th. Festivities will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Friona city Park. Kids will get to talk to Santa and there will be food and craft vendors along with fun activities. A Light Parade will be held around the city park to conclude the event. Food & Craft Vendors can sign up at www.friona-chamber.com to join in the fun.

Adopt A Resident For Christmas

As the festive Christmas Season draws near, Prairie Acres is wholeheartedly dedicated to ensuring that every resident experiences a warm and joyful holiday filled with cheer. To bring this vision to life, they rely on the kindness and generosity of our wonderful community. If you are interested in contributing or require further information about this initiative, please do not hesitate to contact the Activity Department at 806-250-3922. To create the best possible experiences for the residents, please make your donation by December 9th. Your generous support is crucial in helping craft unforgettable holiday memories for everyone at Prairie Acres. Thank you for being an essential part of this heartwarming effort!

Empty Stocking Fund

Donations are being accepted for the Empty Stocking Fund which provides clothing and a toy to local needy children. School teachers are consulted to determine the recipients. USDA at the Friona Cargill Plant purchases the toys. Donations may be made at Friona InterBank or given to project co-chairs Holly Campbell and/or Jyl Grimsley. Make check payable to Empty Stocking Fund.

Project Christmas Card

The Parmer County Hospital Auxiliary is accepting donations for the 69th Annual Project Christmas Card. The proceeds will be used to purchase medical equipment for Parmer Medical Center. Canisters/boxes are placed around town in various businesses for the collection of donations. The names of donors will be listed in the January 2nd edition of the Friona Star. Please make sure you put your name with ALL donations and make checks payable to Project Christmas Card. You can contact Connie Neelley at 806-250-2542 for more information.

Friona United Fund

The Friona United Fund provides financial support for many local non-profit organizations. You can bring your donation to Friona Interbank at 1105 N. Cleveland or mail it to Friona InterBank, P.O. Box 549, Friona, Texas 79035. Make checks payable to Friona United Fund.

The Panhandle Gives

The Panhandle Gives is 9 days (Nov. 25-Dec.3) of enhanced charitable giving. To bolster support of participating organizations, the Amarillo Area Foundation established the “Amplification Fund” made up of money given from foundations, corporate sponsors, and individual donors. One hundred percent of all donations raised by the organizations are kept by that organization. In addition, each participating organization that raised at least $250 during the campaign, receives a percentage match based on the total amount of the Amplification Fund. This means if you give during The Panhandle Gives, Parmer Paws, Friona Youth Sports, and Parmer County Museum will receive MORE than what you gave. Visit thepanhandlegives.org to make a donation.

FVAA Thanks You For Your Support

The Friona Vocational Agriculture Association would like to thank everyone who bought hams and/or made donations during their Thanksgiving fundraiser. The FVAA provides monetary support to the youth of Friona who exhibit a commitment and dedication to Friona 4-H, FFA, and FCCLA activities.

A few weeks ago, Friona FFA students participated in the District Contest for Leadership Development Events in Whitharral. Last week, five students participated in the Area 1 LDE Contest (Class 1A-6A) that was held at West Texas A&M University in Canyon. Congratulations to Carlos Rios finishing as the Area Champion and advancing to State for the second year in a row. Besides being on the Public Relations Team, Ivy Schueler also finished in 9th Place in Greenhand Creed Speaking.

Congratulations to all Friona FFA students who participated in the LDEs and good luck next year in the spring contests.
