79 Years of Service — Between the two of them, Dr. Bob Alexander and Dr. Felipe Jubay have served the residents of Friona and Parmer County for a total of 79 years. Dr. Alexander started his practice in Friona in 1965 and retired in August of 2012. Dr. Jubay came to Friona in October of 1993 and retired in January of 2025. Both were recognized for their service at the Doctors Day reception last Thursday in the hospital lobby.

Hair No More — Martha Barker announced this week that she is officially retiring. Martha said that she has cut hair for 57 years. During that time span she said she changed shop locations about four times. The Friona Star wishes her a very happy retirement!

These three members of the Friona Squaws Track Team have broken or tied school records during the past two weeks. Kitzy Welch (left) broke her own school record in the Discus with a throw of 139-00 feet at the Dimmitt Track Meet. Ellie McGaughy (center) also broke her own school record in the Pole Vault with a leap of 11-00 feet at the Hereford Track Meet. She had just set the new school record earlier this season. Angelica Reyes (right) tied a school record in the Shot Put with a throw of 40-00 feet. The record was first set by Wennetter Jackson in 1984. Go Big Red!
